Barça have knocked out Valencia in 9 out of 15 cup meetings, although Valencia have gone through the last two times
There is plenty of trivia surrounding the meeting tonight between Barça and Valencia in the cup semi final second leg. Here is a selection:
- Barça have knocked out Valencia in 9 out of 15 cup meetings, although Valencia have gone through the last two times
- Valencia beat Barcelona to get to the final in 2007/08 and to the semi finals in the 1998/99 season
- They have played five times in the semi finals, Barça have gone through three times and Valencia twice
- In Barcelona and Valencia's five semi final meetings, the winners have always gone on to take the cup title
- Of the times Barça have drawn 1-1 in the away first leg of a semi final, they have eventually qualified five times out of seven. This situation has never arisen in a cup tie where Valencia has been the opposition
- FC Barcelona have scored three goals against Valencia so far this season. Pedro and Cesc scored in the league and Puyol in the cup
- This season the teams have drawn both times they have met, 2-2 in the league and 1-1 in the cup
- Guardiola made five changes to his team for those matches. Only Cesc, Puyol, Messi, Mascherano, Busquets and Abidal started both in the league and the cup
- Unai Emery has come to the Camp Nou four times, once as manager of Almeria and three times with Valencia, and has always lost
- In these four games against Emery, FC Barcelona have scored eleven goals and only conceded one
- The last time Valencia came to the Camp Nou was early last season, when FC Barcelona won 2-1 thanks to goals from Iniesta and Puyol, and that was after going 1-0 down early on
